2005 IOMS Report

Schuylkill Rehabilitation Center analyzes relevant data to measure the outcomes of patients who received rehabilitative services. This data is kept confidential to the specific names of those persons. The data identifies a variety of common characteristics and the level of functioning at admission, discharge and at a 90 day follow-up.

Persons served are grouped into two categories: the trauma program which includes services provided to patients with diagnoses such as pain (trauma) of lumbar, cervical, joint, tendons, muscles, etc., nerve compression syndromes, fractures and other related trauma injuries. The comprehensive program, which includes services provided to patients with diagnoses such as CVA, arthritis, total joint arthroplasties, amputees, SCI, post acute head injury, and neurological disease.

The identifying characteristics completed include: geographical location, age, sex, marital status, admission status, educational and vocational level, employment and occupation status, type of diagnosis, source of payment, types of services provided, reasons for discharge, duration of treatment in days, charges and goals accomplished. Through the use of a Functional Assessment Rating Scale, the patients’ abilities were established and analyzed at admission, discharge and at a 90-day follow-up contact. The following objectives are measured for each group based on those results.

The efficiency of our program is a measure of the adequate use of financial resources as measured as a ratio of the average change in the patients functioning and total charges for services. Effectiveness of our program is a measure of the adequacy of services to reach goals as measured by a ratio of the average change of the patient’s functioning and total duration of services.

The patients’ functioning levels 90 days after discharge is measured through the patient’s reports if they improved, remained unchanged in their functioning, or are functioning less than at discharge in each of the functional assessment areas.
